Archery Club Awarded a grant from Sport England

At the beginning of 2023, an all-new club committee embarked upon an ambitious programme of renewal and regeneration of the club and its direction. Starting with a clear statement of our new Vision “To be a prosperous and sustainable club enjoyed by an enthusiastic and diverse membership” and defined objectives aiming to engage our catchment community, improve the diversity of our membership and to offer the opportunity for stimulating, sporting activity that can be both challenging and fun.

Our project Archery4All!, generously supported by grant aid from Sport England, will be an important second step in our journey of renewal that will rebuild our capability to provide expert coaching for a programme of beginners’ courses that will aim to attract particularly younger people, people who may suffer varying degrees of disability as well as talented young athletes who may progress to high levels of accomplishment in the sport of archery. We expect in so doing to bring benefits for people of all backgrounds that include the opportunity to interact and socialise with others in a friendly and safe club environment. In our experience this brings mental health benefits for example to older people who may be recently bereaved or living alone or on the other hand by young people dealing with the present-day challenges of social media. Few other environments can offer the opportunity to bring together such a diversity of people for their mutual benefit.

It is with great sadness that we have learned that Annita Bales has lost her battle with cancer. She died on Sunday night 22nd October 2017 at St Lukes Hospice with her family around her.

She brought joy to us all. She will be greatly missed.
Our condolences go out to  Peter and their son David.
