Chairman's Report (2006-07)

The club has had a very successful year.

Back Back to News

We go out on a very strong position both financially and with more active members. We have now got 63 members most of whom shoot regularly.

Many of our members have been successful in competition and have put Tavistock Company of archers on the map.It would be nice if more members took part in competition it adds a further dimension to our sport and is a great opportunity to meet new friends. Remember if you don’t want to shoot field you can always go to GNAS competition, provided you are a member of that society. The club’s constitution recognises all forms of archery and individuals aspirations, so if target archery is your preference why not have a go.This year we have again raised money for the club through field archery competitions. This is one of the few ways still open to raise funds, it is not possible to raise it through have a goes, due to the problem with insurance. Robin will I am sure cover this in the presentation of the clubs finances. Please remember that your helps in these events directly helps to keep club membership costs to probably the lowest in the NFAS.Many thanks to those club members who helped and I hope others will help this coming year.

Please remember this is an amateur club relying totally on the membership - your membership fees do not absolve you of the moral obligation to help in any way you can. This does not necessarily have to be climbing through the woods. I think it is appropriate this year to briefly thank your outgoing committee for their work and supporting me as chairman. I would to thank Robin Booth for his excellent work as treasurer, the strong financial position we are in is due to no small way to his record keeping, balancing the accounts and keeping track of all our costs. Not only are we financially well off but also we have more equipment and better equipment than at any other time. Thanks Robin.

Sandi as secretary has been at my right hand prodding me.
Sandi has kept track of all the important club issues from organising the tea rota to producing committee minutes.
Sandi puts in a tremendous amount of time quietly keeping the club on the rails.
Those of you who have experience of other clubs will appreciate just how vital the role of secretary is to the running of the club. Thanks Sandi

Unfortunately Myles cant be with us tonight following the sudden death of his father last night, but would like to thank Myles for maintaining all our equipment including bows and arrows that our beginners use. Thanks Myles,

Many of us shoot in competition; it is necessary that we have an accurate and formal record of our scores and handicap. Even if you don’t compete it is nice to know you are improving.
Having done the job myself I know how difficult it is to collect scores and record them, those of you who have surfed the net will also see the excellent web site we have. Thanks Nigel.

We have had many new members join the club; everyone has been trained to shoot through the beginner’s course and taught to shoot safely. As coach and training coordinator Lez has been responsible for taking more beginners through to novice archer.
This year we have had several events; these add to the enjoyment of our sport and aid the socialising and fun element – a vital part in the life of the club.
The amount of time taken to arrange these functions and to try and please everyone is a thankless task. Lez arranged a great Christmas bash and a tremendous weekend in Pontivy with our French friends; the French were delighted and enjoyed the weekend as well helped by their victory no doubt. Many thanks to Lez.

At this point I would like to congratulate Sandi and Lez for their success in being appointed official NFAS coaches. I would also like to thank Caroline, Rose and Andy for their contribution to debate at committee.
Thanks to you all.
