Tavistock Company of Archers (TCA) is a thriving club having currently some 60 members. It has been in existence for nearly 20 years, and in that time has trained many new archers. The Club encourages male, female, junior and disabled people to take up this engrossing and healthy sport. We support all main forms of archery.
When
formed, the Club was predominantly concerned with conventional
target
archery, and was affiliated only to the Grand National Archery
Society (GNAS) and its regional representative bodies. It has
subsequently followed the popularity towards field archery and all
members now belong to the National Field Archery Society (NFAS),
to
which the Club is also affiliated. Target archery is however still
carried out at the club venues and is the vehicle for training new
archers.
Several members also belong to the GNAS and attend their
target tournaments, with considerable success. TCA has become a
significant contender in the field archery world and has achieved
some considerable standing by putting on open field shoots on its
own
facilities.
We have regularly host part of the South West Challenge, an annual 8 day event held at four venues in July/August by four different clubs in the South West peninsular. It is also set up the field longbow course for the prestigious NFAS National Championships Tournament in September which, in 2003, was set in Devon.
Tavistock is twinned with the town of Pontivy in France. This has led to an annual international competition, which alternates between Tavistock and Pontivy.
